A decline in GCSE modern languages

Sir,

The decline in modern languages at GCSE can only lead to England becoming increasingly isolationist and, long-term, it’s a potential economic disaster.

My company, along with many other multinationals, is continually trying to recruit people with great language skills.  How many businesses are trying to recruit people with skills in geography and art?  Some subjects should be learned and enjoyed. Others are a necessity. English people have always been prepared to travel and communicate; it’s tragic that we’re becoming so insular.
