THEBIGWORD BACKS NEW INTERPRETER TRAINING COURSES


Leeds, England: 26 March 2013 – thebigword, the world top-12 language services company, has given its backing to new online training courses for Public Service Interpreters developed by Leeds Metropolitan University and the International School of Linguists, a training and testing partner of thebigword.

The courses will help meet the increasing demand for professional interpreters who work alongside public sector bodies such as the NHS, Department for Work and Pensions, Probation Services, Police and Border controls. Delivered on an online platform, the courses enable linguists to work in their own time and at their own pace, supported by tutors.

The four courses lead to a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, equivalent to Degree and Masters level. Leeds Metropolitan University worked with the International School of Linguists (ISL) to create the first two levels. Leeds Metropolitan has created two further levels and is using ISL’s online virtual learning environment to host them.

THEBIGWORD APPOINTS MANAGING DIRECTOR FOR EUROPE


Leeds, England: 18 February 2013 – thebigword, the world top-12 translation and interpreting company, has appointed Sukumar Munshi as Managing Director for Europe as part of the strengthening of thebigword’s management team supporting the company’s meteoric growth.

Sukumar joins thebigword from Across Systems GmbH, where he was leading Strategy and Business Development. He will work from thebigword’s Düsseldorf office. He will lead and develop the company’s business and operations for mainland Europe, spearheading growth in the European marketplace and providing excellent customer service for European-based clients.

Sukumar’s appointment is the first stage of a management team expansion and restructuring to reflect the company’s rapid development. In 2012, thebigword translated more than 380 million words and interpreted more than 14.6 million minutes of speech over the telephone. It also completed 122,000 assignments for face-to-face interpreters through more than 450 staff from 73 countries in 12 offices in nine global locations.

CEO Larry Gould says: “A major part of our growth strategy driving us towards a place in the world’s top ten language companies, is the development and restructuring of our management team. We are appointing four Managing Directors to spearhead growth in our global regions”.
