E-Learning Case Study

How thebigword translated 400,000 words into 8 languages while meeting the clients' deadline to launch their new online training programme.

Background

Our client is the world's largest business software company and the world's third-largest independent software provider overall. They have a comprehensive training programme for their Channel Partner Sales teams that is needed in the main 8 business languages.

The Challenge

thebigword were asked to localise 40 PowerPoint presentations, with a total of 400,000 words into 8 languages. Our client had a very challenging delivery schedule for launch – this required thebigword to translate, manage review, complete voice recording, rebuild, test and deliver the final project within a 12 week timeframe. A project of this nature would normally be managed internally by our client working alongside partners in their Vendor Community. However, the technical expertise required and the aggressive timeframe meant that instead they selected the thebigword to provide them with the skill and project management service they were looking for.

The Solution

Translation was provided using vendors who could demonstrate expertise in the field of training / software and in most cases had proven experience of localisation for our client's product / software projects previously. The vendors were also put into direct contact with the team of dedicated in-country product managers who were responsible for completing the linguistic review.

Our client enjoyed a full project management service from thebigword. Various issues arose during completion of the project that meant the expertise of our E-Learning team was tested from the outset. These included font incompatibility, software limitations for Multilanguage support and overall functionality/file transfer issues. Working alongside our client's internal team and the E-Learning vendor responsible for the content authoring, thebigword were able to ensure that the internal deadline to launch a new global sales training program was met.
