Background

One of our longstanding clients is a global distributor of construction machinery. In order to fulfil legal requirements for distribution in the EU, our client required their operating manuals in multiple languages.

The Challenge

Our client required a fast and efficient process in order to distribute technical operating manuals world wide. To ensure safety regulations were met to the highest standard, the technical translation had to be incredibly accurate.

Due to the extensive volume of technical information, thebigword had to ensure that translations were managed by translators with a strong understanding of the industry.

Further more the format which the manuals were initially being sent through to thebigword in were not the most suitable package for typesetting. Therefore translating the documents and returning them in their original format was a highly complex process.

Translation Solution

Every translation is different and requires a diverse range of products and services. Through a combination of linguistic and technological expertise, thebigwords technical team was able to offer our client a fully tailored solution.

thebigword's technical team offered professional advice on the technical and lingustic issues that may effect the translation process for our client. After various testing an InDesign™ typesetting package was recomended in order to standardize the documents into a design setting, without loosing the original configuration.

This more efficient typesetting package also allowed documents to be sent via XML, which meant translation memory could be systematically implemented into the translation process.

Translation memory is a database of previously translated text. Due to the repetitive nature of automotive content, translation memory was used extensively, dramatically reducing the cost of translation.

The translation process was further streamlined through LanguageDirector™; a web based facility for sending and receiving translations. Through LanguageDirector™ thebigword can receive documents, extract text and send it back in a more efficient way. It is designed to simplify the entire translation process. LanguageDirector™ also allowed our client to track the progress of translation jobs, access management reports and control translation budgets.

LanguageDirector™ made it incredibly easy for our client to send content for translation and collect the completed documents, whilst ensuring greater accuracy and attention to detail.
